Oziana is a magazine of original fiction, artwork, and poetry by members of The International Wizard of Oz Club. It was authorized by Reilly & Lee to use characters and events from the Famous Forty Oz books. The magazine was published annually from 1971 to 2006 in small editions published by the Club. The magazine saw two final issues in this form in 2009 and 2011, with two new issues being printed by the print on demand service Lulu.com in 2011. The magazine is currently active with this business model.

History

Members of The International Wizard of Oz Club suggested that The Baum Bugle publish fan-created works. While a few select pieces of work appeared, it was felt that this was inappropriate for a research journal. Finally, the idea of a separate magazine devoted to fan works arose and was approved.

The first issue of Oziana appeared in 1971 with a letter by Harvey Plotnik, representing Contemporary Books (who had bought out Reilly & Lee), announcing that they approved of the magazine and would allow any works in the magazine to use any information in the Famous Forty Oz books.

The Club funded print runs of Oziana from 1971 to 2006. No issues were issued in 2007, 2008, or 2010. The 2007 issue was published in 2009. In 2011, three new issues were released: a double-length issue retroactively numbered for 2009 and 2010, a retroactively numbered issue for 2008, and the new issue for 2011. In 2012, Oziana will resume annual issues using the print-on-demand service Lulu.com to publish new issues, just as the 2008 and 2011 issues had done.
